Photo: Nearly 80 People Injured in Cuba Train Crash
A local newspaper is reporting that two trains collided in the Cuba province of Guantanamo Tuesday, injuring at least 79 people.
The driver of the smaller of the of the two trains said his brakes did not work, causing him to hit the passenger train. Authorities said preliminary investigations into the circumstances of the collision will continue.
The majority of the injuries sustained were only minor, though two people were in serious condition and may require operations said Guantanamo Regional Hospital’s director Rogelio Creach Bandera.
In 2010, there were a reported 106 train accidents in Cuba, killing at least 19, and injuring 149.
