The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is urging everyone to thank President Obama and his administration for “taking this important step” on behalf of the undocumented youth in the U.S.

The NCLR is the largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S.  The organization traces its origins to the civil rights movement of the 1960s, as well as to previous efforts that preceded World War II, such as those related to early school and housing desegregation.

NCLR noted:

The administration has used its legitimate prosecutorial discretion, recognizing the congressional inaction on immigration reform and that these youth are bravely contributing to their communities day in and day out.  Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano released a memo today that speaks volumes and reaffirms what NCLR and many other advocates have been saying for some time:  “Our Nation’s immigration laws must be enforced in a strong and sensible manner.  They are not designed to be blindly enforced without consideration given to the individual circumstances of each case.  Nor are they designed to remove productive young people to countries where they may not have lived or even speak the language.  Indeed, many of these young people have already contributed to our country in significant ways.  Prosecutorial discretion, which is used in so many other areas, is especially justified here.”

Join us in thanking the administration for providing relief from deportation to DREAMers.  Call (888) 793-9786!
