The Honduran government with assistance from a U.S. Coast Guard patrol have seized a submarine with tons of cocaine aboard.  The submarine-like water craft appears to be made of fiberglass and was found about 50 feet below the water surface in the province of Gracias a Dios (thanks to God).

The vessel was spotted by a U.S. Coast Guard patrol with five crew members detained.  The crew attempted to sink the submarine when spotted.  Officials seized close to 13.8 tons of drugs with a street value of $500 million but thus far have only been able to recover from the submerged vessel approximately 7.3 tons with a value of $250 million.

The seizure was so large that officials have not yet finished recovering all the drugs aboard in spite of being at it since Wednesday.  Officials believe the submarine originated in Colombia with cargo on its way to the U.S.
