Narco Blog: Routine Army Patrol Ends Up in Chaos in Chilpancingo

A fire fight broke out between a group of gunmen and the Mexican Army, Sunday morning on the Boulevard to Petaquillas in Chilpancingo, Guerrero. The danger caused panic among people in the area.

According to reports, locals reported that the shootout lasted several minutes. It apparently all began when soldiers were conducting a routine surveillance tour and they encountered several armed men traveling in two vans.

The fight resulted in the death of three of the gunmen and three soldiers were wounded.

After the confrontation, the vehicular traffic was closed for more than three hours and hundreds of people were trapped on the Boulevard.

The bodies were taken to the Forensic Medical Service, and were identified as Heriberto Salinas Estrada, 27, Abel Garcia, 21, and Alejandro Lopez Sanchez, 21.
