Johnny Barrios Rojas rescue was perhaps one of the most anticipated of the 33, if only to see who would greet him. Barrios is known as the man who had two women waiting for him at Camp Hope. Marta Salinas has been his wife for 28 years while Susana Valenzuela has been his mistress for four years. To complicate matters, Salinas knew nothing of the affair until she ran into Valenzuela in the tent city and a very public argument ensued.
When Barrios emerged from the capsule, he appeared a little timid as he looked around to see who would be greeting him. Girlfriend Susana Valenzuela stepped up and gave him a long kiss and he whispered in her ear.
Salinas was nowhere to be seen. “He has another companion,” she told reporters, adding that she might wait for him at home. “I’m happy for him, and if he remakes his life, good for him.”
Weeks earlier, Barrios’ wife had ripped down a poster of her husband put up by his mistress, who taped the poster back up.
Barrios ( 50 ) became the medic of the group. He dispensed medicines, passed out nicotine patches and photographed wounds to be transmitted to the surface.
