21-year-old Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares from Venezuela was crowned with the title of Miss World 2011 last night in London.

In second and third place were Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, and Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Pérez.

Miss Venezuela came ahead of contestants from 113 countries and was a clear favorite in the categories of beach beauty, top model, talent, sports, and ‘beauty with a purpose.’

Ivian Lunasol works for a broadcasting company and has a degree in human resources.  She is one of 13 siblings orphaned at a young age, and spent her early years at an orphanage run by nuns that inspired her at one time to consider becoming a nun.

As Miss World, Ivian will spend a whole year working with the Miss World’s ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ program, as a spokesperson for its charitable projects around the world.

According to organizers, the event was followed by more than a billion viewers from more than 168 countries.  Miss World 2012 will be held in China.
