Jimena Navarrete, Miss Mexico 2010, of Guadalajara, is crowned Miss UNIVERSE 2010 becoming the 59th MISS UNIVERSE at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, yesterday night.
After back-to-back wins by Valenzuela, Mexico brings home the crown this year. Latin women have won their 6th Miss Universe title in a decade. “I chose a red dress because this year Mexico is celebrating 200 years of independence and this color has a lot of meaning,” Navarrete explained.
Navarrete looked calm and collected as she answered pagent questions concerning the effect of unsupervised internet use on children. Her politically correct reply, via a translator: “I do believe that the internet is an indispensable and necessary tool for the present time, and we must be very careful and watch over what our children watch and see or teenagers watch and see. And we must be sure to teach them the values that we learn as a family so that they may use the internet properly.”
Her spectacular year long reign will include traveling throughout the world making special appearances on behalf of the Miss Universe Organization, its sponsors and affiliated charities.
