Minority Caucus Members Gain Clout in New Congress

After this year’s mid-term election members of the Black and Hispanic caucus hold nearly a third of all the Democratic seats in Congress.  The minority caucuses hold 61 of the 190 Democratic seats with most members considered liberal.

These impressive numbers will give members of theses caucuses senior positions on key party committees and allow them to be in a stronger position to advocate their stance amongst moderate Democrats.

They appear ready and willing to advocate a liberal agenda that includes government spending to create jobs.

Though the Democrats overall are in the minority party in Congress the Black and Hispanic caucus members intend to block any call to roll back health care reform and banking regulations.  Another priority is immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship.
