Martin Berasategui, the Spanish chef who has earned the most Michelin stars, plans to open a new restaurant in Costa Rica in early 2015.
The restaurant in Costa Rica will be located in a hotel complex operated under Spanish hospitality giant Melia’s Paradisus Resorts luxury brand, Berasategui, whose career has spanned nearly 40 years and has received seven Michelin stars, told Efe.
The chef currently has restaurants at two hotels in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and in the Mexican resorts of Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
Berasategui earned his seven Michelin stars with Lasarte, in the Basque province of Guipuzcoa (3); Lasarte in Barcelona (2); and MB, in Tenerife, Canary Islands, (2).
“The best way to keep the stars is to make sure more are coming in future years,” the Basque chef said, adding that his recipe for success was a blend of “humility, enthusiasm, dedication, team, perfection and imagination.”
“You can’t be scared or lazy or embarrassed,” the chef, who will soon make the jump to television under a deal with Mediaset España, said.
