According to a recent Forbes.com report, Miami tops the list of ‘America’s Most Miserable Cities’.

As a result of income inequality, crime, unemployment rates, foreclosures, taxes, traffic, and various other factors, Miami made no.1 even ahead of troubled Detroit, which has suffered the most from the downturn of the U.S. auto industry.

The five cities that made up the top of the list were:

1. Miami, FL
2. Detroit, MI
3. Flint, MI
4. West Palm Beach, FL
5. Sacramento, CA

Forbes Senior Editor Kurt Badenhausen said, ‘The one percent in Miami is doing fantastic. But for the vast majority, who make less than $75,000 (a year), Miami can be a challenging place,” he said. ‘Forty-seven percent of homeowners sit on underwater mortgages. That’s tough.’

However, Badenhausen was quick to point out, ‘We’re trying to judge cities where residents have a lot of complaints. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t terrific things there.’

As always, Miami has plenty of sun, beautiful beaches, a rich cultural history and a booming night life.
