Jamaica is not an opponent to be taken lightly, Mexican coach Jose Manuel de la Torre said Tuesday ahead of the squads’ World Cup qualifying match here at Aztec stadium.

“We have rivals. Jamaica made things hard for the United States and won against Guatemala,” the coach told reporters following the team’s final practice before Wednesday’s qualifier.

The Jamaicans, he said, “have height, power, speed, order and skilled players.”

While determined to ensure Mexico gets a spot at next year’s World Cup in Brazil, De la Torre refused to predict where his squad will end up in the Concacaf rankings.

Mexico entered the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cup tourneys as the No. 2 team to emerge from Concacaf.

“I always try to win all the matches. It’s not always possible, but I always try to win them,” the Mexican coach said. “We are very emphatic about not under-estimating anybody.”
