Mexico has more bad news at its doorstep, its drug cartels are the number one importers of cold medicine chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamines (meth) consumed in the U.S.
The drug cartels, always looking for businesses to expand into, quickly figured out the demand for black market flu, cold and allergy pills that eventually get turned into meth. These pills are banned in Mexico and very restricted in the U.S.
In just the last 18 moths Mexican authorities have raided over 300 pill factories producing million pounds of methamphetamines. It appears the cartels are now trafficking through their sophisticated distribution systems ephedrine-type medicines just like they would cocaine.
