Mexico is Evacuating Latin Americans from Egypt, Embassy Remains Open

The Mexican Embassy in Cairo remains open in order to assist any Mexican citizen or others from Latin American countries, with departure plans from Egypt.  The embassy is also encouraging its citizens to avoid the street demonstrations and to seek refuge in the embassy if needed.

Thus far Mexico has evacuated 35 Mexican citizens, 6 Argentineans, 5 Dominican Republicans and one Brazilian from Egypt according to a statement from its foreign ministry. The evacuees flew out of Cairo to Athens and then from there everyone went to their respective countries.

The Mexican government continues to monitor the situation in Cairo and will announce later whether it will close its embassy.  The American embassy remains closed except for emergency services only until further notice.
