Mexico’s Tourism Minister, who does not have an enviable job lately, is asking Texas to tone down its travel alerts to Mexico.
Rodolfo Lopez-Negrete is currently in Austin meeting with the Texas Secretary of State, Hope Andrade and state law enforcement in hopes of convincing them that resort areas remain safe.
Mexico is of the opinion that Texas, which sends many tourists to the country, issues very broad and countrywide travel warnings. For example, this past Spring Break students were warned to stay away from Mexico period, not just violent border towns but also the popular beach resorts.
Lopez-Negrete does strongly encourage the ‘common sense’ approach when traveling to Mexico or anywhere else, which he sees as the best travel advice.
