More than one-third of Mexico City’s museums opened their doors in the evening to provide an opportunity to people who are unable to visit during normal operating hours.
The museums participated Wednesday evening in “Museum Night 2013” to welcome visitors.
“We want to open the museums to people who on normal work days, during their work shifts, cannot visit because of museum hours and come out of work and no museums are open,” Federal District historic, art and cultural coordinator Guadalupe Lozada told Efe.
The program was launched in 2009, with participating museums opening from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month.
The number of museums participating in the program grew from 25 last month to 47 now.
Mexico City is following in the footsteps of Sao Paulo, Montevideo and Berlin, Lozada said.
