Saturday a crowd of nearly 2500 gathered in Mexico City to beat out China for a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The event involved coordinating the crowd of 2433 people so that they would simultaneously drop Mentos candies into a bottle of soda.
When the Mentos are dropped into a 2-liter bottle of soda, a reaction occurs and the soda shoots up to two meters in the air. China has held the record since June when 2,175 people participated in their experiment.
“It was great, everyone was excited and they could tell they were here and they wanted to be a part of history and once all those fountains erupted it was just incredible to see,” Guinness World Records adjudicator, Mike Janela, said.
Participants of all ages were involved and most were left drenched in soda.
