Mexican singer, composer Reyli Barba, 48, has been arrested in Mexicali after a violent confrontation with police who were investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle.
Friday morning around 8:30 am an auto supply store called police to investigate a car with an unidentified man they believed was smoking marijuana. When police arrived and questioned Barba he became violent and verbally abusive to the officers. Reportedly he struck two of the police officers one of which was a woman.
The Juarez native is a former member of the Elefante grupo that launched his solo career with the hit “Desde Que Llegaste”. He has also enjoyed much success as a composer writing songs for Beyonce, Alejandro Fernandez, and TV shows like Mexico’s Big Brother.
Toxocology reports showed Barba was under the influence of cocaine and alcohol when he was arrested.
Barba was in Mexicali for a free concert for the youth hostel “La Villa”.
