Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon’s sister has won her primary gubernatorial election in the state of Michoacan. State Senator Luisa Maria Calderon was a National Action Party candidate and won the primary with over 60 percent of the votes.
Michoacan is the home state of the President and his sister while it is also home to the La Familia drug cartel. The gubernatorial elections are set for November 13, 2011.
Calderon served in Mexico’s upper house of Congress until 2006 but has held numerous positions for the National Action Party including being a local deputy.
