A delegation of FC Barcelona players on Sunday held a brief meeting with cancer-stricken kids in the town of Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv, where many of the children had one of their dreams some true and forgot their illness for a few minutes.
The players who made the visit were Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Pique, and they were welcomed to Kfar Hamacabia, where the meeting took place, by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara.
The players signed autographs, posed for photos with the kids - some of whom were in wheelchairs - and kicked a soccer ball around surrounded by members of the security detail, curious onlookers and fans.
“This is a day for them (the children). What hope they give them,” Netanyahu told a local sports channel, wearing a blue jersey and track suit pants.
The prime minister’s wife agreed that this type of event “transmits great hope and strength to go on” and noted that the majority of the children “are going from treatment to treatment.”
Later, the players joined the rest of the team for a practice session, along with Israeli and Palestinian children, in the Bloomfield stadium in Tel Aviv, which seats 14,400 people and where thousands of young fans had been waiting to see the Barcelona stars.
FC Barcelona held a similar practice session on Saturday in the municipal stadium in the town of Dura, south of Hebron, where some 24,000 fans watched every move the Catalonian teammembers made.
