The 26-year-old four-time world player of the year, who this week formally began his second stage of treatment at the Argentine soccer federation’s facilities in Ezeiza, Greater Buenos Aires, was in high spirits on Tuesday.
Much of the federation’s medical staff was put at the disposal of the Argentine, who arrived early and underwent kinesiology and did some light jogging in the morning.
After lunch, the player’s rehab was focused on strengthening and toning exercises.
On Wednesday, the striker is scheduled to undergo an ultrasound scan to evaluate how well the muscle is healing.
Messi, who sustained the injury during a Spanish-league match against Real Betis on Nov. 10, completed the first stage of his recovery in Barcelona.
He will now spend most of December in Argentina, undergoing treatment in Buenos Aires from Monday to Friday and then traveling on the weekends to his home city of Rosario to spend time with his family.
The Argentine is on track to return to competition on Jan. 5 for Barcelona’s Spanish-league match against Elche.
