Brazilian Fernando Meirelles is teaming once again with screenwriter Bráulio Montovan, also from Brazil, for a film based on Peter Evans’s book “Nemesis: The True Story of Aristotle Onassis, Jackie O, and the Love Triangle That Brought Down the Kennedys”
Meirelles defines the upcoming film as a sort of Greek ‘Godfather,’ with Ari Onassis in the middle of it all, drawing more on the sketchy business practices of the billionaire, and his tumultuous relationship with the Kennedys and particularly Robert, who as attorney general investigated Onassis, and banned him from trading in the US.
The discord between Bobby Kennedy and Onassis led to allegations that the latter might have financed Kennedy’s assassination.
Meirelles and Montovani were nominated in 2004 for best direct or and best screenwriter academy awards respectively for their work on ‘City of God.’
This project will be financed by the French Pathé.
Meirelles is currently wrapping up 360, a romantic drama starring Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Weisz, and Jude Law, written by Peter Morgan; Meirelles is also signed on to direct one of the ten short film segments in the upcoming collectionRio, I Love You.
