Master Spy Writer Tom Clancy Dead at Age 66

Sad news for the legions of Tom Clancy fans, the New York Times (NYT) is reporting the author has died at age 66.

The best-selling author wrote such classic books at ‘Hunt for Red October,’ and the ‘Patriot Games’ and was known as a master author in the espionage and military genre.  Many of his books were set during the Cold War.  In 2008 Clancy sold his naming rights to a video game manufacturer to be used in games, movies and related products.

Clancy authored 28 books the most recent ‘Command Authority’ is due for release this December.  His most iconic character is CIA operative Jack Ryan portrayed in movies by Harrison Ford.

Seventeen of his novels appeared on NYT best-sellers list with many of them reaching the coveted No. 1 spot.

The NYT is reporting the author died in a hospital near his Maryland home.  The cause of death was not made public.
