At least 35 people were injured in a traffic accident involving a cargo truck, a microbus and a taxi in this capital on Wednesday, authorities told Efe.
The three vehicles collided about 8:30 a.m. (1430 GMT) on Route 118 between Pantitlan and Cuatro Caminos, the press spokesman for the Federal District’s Security Secretariat, or SSP-DF, Luis Armando Ramirez.
Authorities have not yet definitively determined the cause of the accident, but the online versions of several media outlets reported that the microbus driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the oncoming lane where he hit the truck.
“Among the injured are the drivers of the three vehicles, who for the moment are under arrest,” Ramirez added.
The injured were taken in ambulances to several hospitals to be treated.
The SSP-DF official said he did not know if there were any seriously hurt people among the injured.
The Mexico City metropolitan zone has some 3.5 million vehicles plying its streets and collisions involving heavy vehicles and/or public transportation vehicles are a frequent occurrence.
