Major Accident During Carnival in Brazil Leaves 26 Dead

A major accident occurred in Santa Catarina in Brazil during Carnival celebrations, when a truck crashed into a bus with Carnival passengers leaving half of them dead.

The accident occurred Saturday morning around 3:30 am local time when a truck carrying 37 tons of construction material overturned and went into oncoming traffic hitting a tour bus carrying 43 passengers.  The accident resulted in 26 fatalities.

In other unrelated traffic incidents 8 young people were killed, 5 in Minas Gerais, 3 in Parana and 8 people injured in Sao Paulo – all incidents occurring as people were traveling to Carnival celebrations being held throughout the country. 

The country has deployed 9,000 traffic officers just for the Carnival season.
