We aren’t sure if it is what is going on in Wisconsin or the recent shooting of AZ Rep. Gabby Giffords but the Mayor to the largest city in the U.S. is afraid and wants to built a 6-ft fence around his official residence.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa wants the city to change its rules and allow a 6 ft fence around the official mayoral house, the Getty House, in Windsor Square.  The current code only allows for a 42 inch fence not a 72 inch fence.

His detractors say he doesn’t need it and that there are no viable security issues presently.  Thus far Villaraigosa has had to face displeased constituents who stage protests and sit-ins on the lawn, everyone from the city librarians to union employees. We wonder, if maybe everything that is going on in Wisconsin has him thinking.

The Mayor justifies his request as a budget conscious effort since his 24-hour security detail would be eliminated and security cameras would be in place on the fence.

Anti-immigrants blogs are having a field day with the request criticizing the Mayor:  “Villaraigosa finally understands the need for a fence, but only around his home!”  Villaraigosa is very pro-immigrant and has supported the boycott of Arizona after the passage of SB 1070 and is the son of a Mexican immigrant.
