Worry not my CHiPs - Ponch Poncherello loving fans: Erik Estrada is alive and well. He is even somewhat reprising his beloved character from the TV show that made him a household name (ok maybe not a household name) some 25 years ago.
He appears with ‘real’ CHiP’s officers in a public service announcements (PSA’s) for Los Angeles residents to warn them and brace them for the upcoming ‘carmageddon’, better known as the closing of 10-miles of the 405 freeway.
If you are a Los Angeles resident you can watch his PSA’s in English and Spanish on lane closures on I-405. Who says his career is long over??
Yes, he is tackling a bigger foe than speeders its road closures.
Who else but Ponch can wink at us and sneer while telling us a 10-mile stretch of highway is closed for two days in July. You gotta love LA – who else would think of using an actor who played a fake traffic cop to talk about real traffic issues while appearing with real traffic cops, all in the name of public service???
