“Lawrence of Arabia” Star and Eight Time Best Actor Nominee: Peter O’Toole Dies at 81

The agent of screen giant Peter O’Toole has confirmed the British actor has died at age 81.

The star of “Lawrence of Arabia” died Saturday night at a London hospital after a long illness. The prolific actor was best known for his role as T.E. Lawrence in “Lawrence of Arabia” in 1962. He appeared in many other notable films such as “My Favorite Year,” “The Lion in Winter,” and “Man of La Mancha.”

He continued to work into his later years of life recently starring in “Ratatouille” and ‘The Tudors.” O’Toole officially retired in 2012. He was nominated eight times for an Oscar for best actor but never won; the Academy granted him an honorary Oscar in 2003. His last nomination for best actor came in 2006 for “Venus.”

The actor had overcome stomach cancer in the 1970’s.
