The predominately white Alamo Heights’ high school basketball team celebrated their Region IV -4A championship by chanting “USA!” “USA!”  Was this just heady enthusiasm or a racist chant as many are charging?

Clearly a racist chant since the school has apologized, punished players and the taunt video is going viral.

Alamo Heights defeated the predominantly Latino team from San Antonio, the Edison High School.  The team and their athletic director were so offended that the San Antonio Independent School District filed a complaint with high school basketball authorities.

The chant lasted just five seconds because Alamo’s coach immediately realized what was happening and silenced his students.  Apparently though both schools exist less than four miles away from each other they are a world apart.

The Alamo Heights school has apologized and has banned the students involved from the upcoming semifinal game.
