A Texas woman was arrested after she allowed her young nephew to drive her car to pick up his sister.

According to police, Carolina Romero-Gonzalez, 40, gave her 11-year-old nephew the keys to her car to meet up with his sister.

On January 17, an Austin schools police officer pulled over a maroon Saturn sedan near Lanier High School and discovered the 11-year-old behind the wheel, with his 9-year-old brother in the seat next to him.

The driver, who is only in 5th grade, told the officer his aunt handed him the car keys and told him to go pick up his sister.

Though initially denying giving the child the keys, Romero-Gonzalez was interviewed again, and that time admitted she had.

She now faces a felony charge of abandoning or endangering a child, and her bail was set at $7,500.

It is unclear if she was the legal guardian of any of the children.
