Photo: Baby Alligator Sold- Craigslist
No one should be surprised what you can buy on Craiglist but a baby alligator is one of the more unusual items. Authorities from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) routinely monitor sale of endangered and protected wildlife species and discovered the unusual listing.
A sharp DNR officer noticed, 19-year-old Juan DeJesus’ Craiglist’s ad selling a baby alligator for $300. Under a ruse a DNR agent agreed to buy the alligator and go to DeJesus’ Chicagoland home to pick it up.
The Craiglist ad read:
“Baby gator for sale, id consider a trade for a leachie gecko. Sale price is 300 obo asap.”
When the DNR showed up according to the Chicago Tribune, to ‘buy’ the alligator DeJesus produced the baby alligator and asked for his $300, whereby authorities promptly arrested him and seized the alligator as evidence.
There are no reports as to how the teen acquired the baby alligator, which are not common on the Northwest side of Chicago.
