Florida police have arrested a young man for allegedly breaking into a classmate’s home, attempting to have sex with her. He now faces charges of child abuse, sexual battery, and burglary involving an assault and battery.
At around 1:20 a.m. on Monday, police were called to the home of a teenage girl who called after a classmate reportedly broke into her family’s Volusia County home, entered her room, and grabbed her.
The 16-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, told a 911 dispatcher she was sleeping when she awoke suddenly and realized almost immediately that someone was in her room.
“I woke up, and I felt something. I felt him looking at me, and he was right there,” she told a dispatcher.
After she awoke, the victim says she realized the person in the room was a classmate named Eduardo Rodriguez. The 18-year-old was reportedly infatuated with the girl, despite her wanting nothing to do with her.
As Rodriguez lifted up the girl’s blanket and reached for her, she grabbed his arm and screamed for her mother.
Rodriguez ran as and the girl called 911 and her mother chased after him. About an hour later, officers found Rodriguez shirtless, shoeless, and running near a set of train tracks. Authorities also say he smelled of alcohol and claimed he thought he was entering his own house, not the victim’s.
He was being held on $52,000 bail at Volusia County Branch Jail.
