Photo: New York Man Posts "Baby for Sale" Ad on Craigslist
A young New York man was arrested last week after reportedly posting an ad on Craigslist, intended to sell a baby.
Paul Marquez, 22, was said to be angry with a woman he had dated when he posted photos of the her two-month-old daughter on Craigslist as if the baby was his.
Marquez claimed the child was “really getting on my nerves,” but was fun and loved to play. He went on to say, “I don’t want her Please email me.”
According to Staten Island authorities, someone who spotted Marquez’s ad contacted him through Craigslist. Marquez allegedly gave the person the mother’s number. The person contacted the woman who then called police.
Staten Island prosecutors say Marquez had gone one a few dates with the woman, but had grown angry that he was not getting more attention.
According to police, the “baby for sale” ad was flagged on Craigslist and taken down, but Marquez reposted it.
Marquez was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, harassment and a social service violation of authority to place or board out children.
As of Monday he was being held in lieu of $1,000 bail.
The person who contacted Marquez then the mother is also being investigated to determine whether the person was actually trying to buy the child or simply made contact out of concern.
