California authorities have confirmed that three children were home when their grandfather opened fire on his adult daughters over the holiday weekend.
On Monday, 63-year-old Anthony Alvarez killed himself after shooting his two daughters, killing one and critically injuring the other.
His 8-year-old granddaughter called police after hearing gunshots in the Orosi, Calif. home.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Dept. arrived at the home to find Jennifer Kimble , 37, had died from multiple gunshot wounds. Her sister, Valerie Alvarez, 33, was said to be in critical condition and was flown to a hospital in Fresno about 20 miles away. She was said to be undergoing surgery on Monday.
Their father was found dead in the home of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Three children were in the home at the time of the shooting but were unharmed. All three were Kimble’s children. The children - 8, 11, and 13 years old - were reunited with their father, who was at work at the time of the shooting.
Police did not immediately provide Alvarez’s motive for shooting his daughters.
