Police say a man pretending to be a Dunkin’ Donuts corporate auditor attempted to rob an Orlando-area shop on Tuesday.
Ricardo Diaz, 48, reportedly convinced employees of the Alafaya Trail Dunkin’ Donuts that he had been sent by the company’s corporate headquarters to conduct an audit. He eventually also convinced the workers to open the register. He then told one employee that money in the register was counterfeit.
Feeling something was not right, one employee told a fellow worker to call for help from the bathroom.
While workers were in the back, leaving Diaz unattended at the register, the fake auditor took the cash from the register and attempted to flee out the back door.
Before he could get away however, 19-year-old employee Samuel Oliveria tackled Diaz and with the help from a Dunkin’ Donuts Patronmanaged to detain him until police arrived.
Diaz was making a run for it with $237 from the register. He now faces charges of burglary, petty theft and robbery.
