One of New Mexico’s “most wanted” was taken into custody Monday, after police caught him going to a party being thrown for his own wedding.
Known gang member Daniel Luis Jojola was arrested by officers just hours after getting married to Yvonne Martinez in the New Mexico town of Carrizozo.
U.S. Marshals say Jojola was entering a home in Roswell to celebrate the day’s wedding when officers attempted to arrest him for a parole violation.
Deputy Marshal James Badway told a local news station it was pretty clear Jojola’s new bride was aware that a search was ongoing for her husband.
‘The bride got out of the car and started to look around to make sure no one was watching and then she kind of covered him as they went into the house. At that point deputies were able to observe tattoos on the neck and on the body.’
Jojola attempted to flee, but was apprehended at the home’s backdoor where authorities were already waiting. He was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a 9mm handgun. Added to the list of charges against him was one for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Jojola has a long history of criminal behavior to fill his extensive criminal record. He is also said to be affiliated with the Eastside Chihuahuita gang. His record includes charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and four burglary convictions.
Martinez is also a member of her husband’s gang and is said to be the leader of all the female members. She is facing her own charges, and was scheduled to appear before a judge next week for drug charges.
Crime apparently runs in the family, as both Jojola’s brother and sister have also been arrested for outstanding warrants, though their charges are unrelated to their brother’s.
