A Georgia fire captain was arrested earlier this week after allegedly lighting his wife’s clothes on fire and then threatening and attacking officers that arrived on the scene.
Savannah Fire Captain Elmer Cuevas was arrested Tuesday for threatening to shoot his 33-year-old wife and her mother and then setting the wife’s clothes on fire in the backyard of their home.
When police arrived at the home at around 6:15 p.m., Cuevas was had a knife strapped to his belt which the officers convinced him to drop relinquish, but their trouble with the angry fire captain was far from over.
Cuevas managed to get back inside the house after grabbing an officer who tried to block entry. The officers, who had come from two different precincts, tried to coax him back outside, and warned him that if he did not comply, they would fire a stun gun.
He ultimately exited the house but after doing so head-butted two officers, threatened to burn the officers’ patrol cars and kill everyone at the scene.
After the tense situation was neutralized, Cuevas arrested and taken to Chatham County Jail.
The 48-year-old was officially charged with terroristic threats and acts, second-degree arson and two counts of battery on a police officer.
