Photo: Angelo Fabiani Arroyo crashed, left his injured son on the ground
It seems we may have a contender for Worst Father of the Year on our hands.
On Sunday, 40-year-old Angelo Fabiani Arroyo lost control of his vehicle while driving in San Diego. Following the accident however, Arroyo ran off, leaving his seriously injured 4-year-old son behind.
Arroyo was reportedly driving his 2004 Nissan Titan and hauling a small water-craft trailer when he lost control and hit a guardrail and palm tree. The vehicle ended up on its side atop a 10-foot-hight concrete retaining wall.
Following the crash, Arroyo reportedly ran, but returned to release the four-year-old from his partially ejected car seat. Unbuckling the child caused him to fall out of the car. Witnesses reportedly watched in horror as the boy dropped about 10 feet to the ground below.
As witnesses tended to the child, Arroyo ran off again. Paramedics took the boy to Rady Children’s Hospital. It is believed he was being treated for severe head trauma, but that has not been confirmed. The child’s mother asked that the hospital not release updates regarded her son’s condition.
Though authorities searched for Arroyo for three hours on Sunday, they were unable to find him. On Tuesday, however, Arroyo was found and arrested for hit-and-run with injury and child endangerment.
