An New Mexico man is charged with commercial burglary, criminal damage to property, and car theft.
At around 6 a.m., Albuquerque police responded to reports someone was attempting to steal an ATM.
Witnesses allegedly saw Michael Betz, 42, attempting to open an ATM by attaching the front of it to the bumper of his Scion.
Rather than opening the machine, however, Betz only managed to tear off his bumper.
Betz drive away from the scene, and police gave chase. During the chase, Betz crashed into a fence and just barely missed hitting an apartment building on the other side.
Police say Betz attempted to flee on foot, but was captured and arrested. It is believed the Scion he crashed was stolen.
Officers are also investigating whether Betz was involved in recent ATM theft in the area.
