An Illinois father has been arrested after he allegedly burned his son’s face because he believed the boy stole a dollar bill from him.
Police say 35-year-old Josue Marinque of Joliet came home Sunday night after a night spent drinking and watching boxing. He was reportedly “on the edge” when he came home because the fighter he was cheering for lost and on his way home had transmission problems with his car.
Upon coming home, Marrinque said he noticed a dollar was missing off of his dresser. Believing his 11-year-old son had stolen from him, the father woke him up by hitting him with a leather belt. He then used a hot iron to burn the young boy’s arm and hand in an attempt to get him to confess to stealing the $1 bill.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, Police Commander Brian Benton said Marinque “initially claimed he had been struggling with the boy to keep him from burning himself with the iron, but later changed his statement.”
The father has been charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a child.
