Photo: La Liga Game Leaves Granada's Dani Benítez Frustrated, Throws Bottle at Ref's Face
A Spanish league soccer match had one player so angry he smashed a referee in the face with a bottle.
During a La Liga match between Granada and Real Madrid, Granada’s Dani Benítez lashed out at the referee, throwing a bottle at face and trying to leave.
He, as well as other members of his team were anxious to score, as every point and had grown frustrated throughout the match.
Usually, the referee will allow the trailing team to finish an attack before ruling the game over. However, this was not the case and frustrated the team further, as they were down 2-1. The ref blew the whistle, calling full time before a pending corner kick.
Angry Granada players swarmed the ref and two were actually sent off the field. Still on the field, Benítez angrily chucked the bottle.
Luckily, it appears the ref was left without serious injury.
Granada will now have to get a positive result in the last game of the season without Hurtado and Siqueira, the players sent off the field just before the bottle-throwing, to keep the team in the running.
