FC Barcelona will ask delegates at the club’s Oct. 5 annual meeting to approve a budget of 509 million euros ($679.3 million) for the 2013-2014 season, the club said Tuesday.
The addition of new sponsors and the 25 million euros Bayern Munich paid for the transfer of Thiago Alcantara allowed Barça management to draw up the club’s first-ever 500-million-euro-plus spending plan.
The budget projects a surplus of 36 million euros for the season, club spokesman Antoni Freixa told reporters Tuesday at the Nou Camp.
Barça, the defending La Liga champion, is on the verge of signing a new sponsorship pact worth 1.5 million euros, Freixa said, declining to identify the prospective partner.
The spokesman also announced a six-month contest, open to Barcelona members and fans, to take a photograph that best “expresses the values of the club.”
