Photo: Kenny Ortega to Direct "Dirty Dancing" Remake
Can anyone forget the 1987 epic dance film that made Patrick Swayze an immortal dance icon? So therefore it’s very exciting news to hear there is going to be a remake and Ortega who choreographed and invented the grinding style of “Dirty Dancing” which made the original a cult classic, will be a part of the remake.
Dirty dancing is undoubtedly one of the film icons of the 80’s, as well as one of the most profitable films ever, grossing some $213 million worldwide, while made on a budget of $6 million.
Now it seems that Lionsgate wants to continue milking the “Dirty Dancing” cash cow and have allegedly asked Kenny Ortega to direct it.
Kenny Ortega, went from choreographing Swayze and Jennifer Grey, to directing the TV series (at least for a handful of episodes) before directing a few High School Musical episodes and then the hit Michael Jackson tribute documentary “This Is It,” brought to life after the King of Pop’s death obscured the tour Kenny Ortega was orchestrating. And this is just a small fraction of the famed director/choreographer’s bio.
