The U.S. National Hurricane Center has issued a tropical storm advisory for Tropical Storm Gabrielle forming south of Puerto Rico. The storm started as a tropical depression with sustained winds of 35 mph.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Puerto Rico and parts of the Dominican Republic. The storm is expected to move northwest over the next few days creating gusty winds, rough surf and heavy rains. The storm is expected to move over Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic on Thursday and then head out to sea. The storm is currently located some 70 miles south of Ponce, Puerto.
According to weather.com heavy rains, flash flooding and mudslides are a large concern with this storm system. Tropical Storm Gabrielle is not expected to become a hurricane or hit mainland U.S.
