Former Massachusetts Governor and Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has apparently won the Puerto Rico primary.  Though residents of this territory cannot vote for a President in the general election they do have twenty delegates to give to a primary winner.

According to CNN Romney had 11,500 votes or 82% of the vote count way ahead of Rick Santorum who came in a distant second with 9% of the vote count.  The Governor of Puerto Rico, Luis Fortuño, had endorsed Romney early in the race and this was thought to have greatly helped Romney secure a clear victory.

Unfortunately for Santorum, he created quit a controversy when campaigning in Puerto Rico when announcing he would require English to be the official language before Puerto Rico could gain statehood.  Spanish and English are both the official languages of Puerto Rico.

Both CNN and AP projected Romney as the winner only three hours after the polls had closed.
