The report of his death came from the company itself. He died from advanced pancreatic cancer that he had been battling for over seven years. He had recently resigned as Apple’s CEO on August 24, 2011.
The formal announcement read as follows:
We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.
Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.
His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.
Jobs co-founded Apple Computer back in 1976 with pal Steve Wozniak selling the world’s first personal computer called the Apple II. Jobs went ahead to create Apple’s iPhone, iPad, iPod, iTunes, to name a few. On the Apple website you can feel the loss for the man the company is calling a “visionary and creative genius.”
