Annette Funicello, the former Mouseketeer and beach movie icon has died at age 70 from complications from multiple sclerosis.
The announcement came from the teen idol’s official Disney fan club page.
Funicello started her long career at age 12 and was one of the original Mouseketeers. She then transitioned her career to beach movies along side Frankie Avalon and become a teen idol sensation during the 50’s and 60’s. Funicello was also a successful recording artists with songs like “Tall Paul”.
Her beach movies are now part of American film history and include “Beach Blanket Bingo”, “How to Stuff a Wild Bikini” and “Pajama Party”.
The Italian American actress had been struggling with MS since 1992 when she publicly announced her battle. In 2004 she lost her ability to walk and eventually her ability to speak.
According to Deadline Hollywood the actress died peacefully at her home with her family at her side.
