Florida authorities are announcing that George Zimmerman was arrested this afternoon, at 1 p.m. EST, in response to a domestic disturbance incident.
The announcement came from the Seminole County Sherriff’s office who did not provide additional details. Certain local reports indicate a girlfriend accused him of domestic violence in Seminole County where the couple lives. Reports indicate this is a new girlfriend for Zimmerman and that she is blond and 27-years-old.
This is the second arrest related to a domestic disturbance for Zimmerman this year. In September, the 30-year-old Peruvian-American was arrested in an alleged domestic disturbance between him and his estranged wife, Shellie Zimmerman. No charges were issued against Zimmerman stemming from the incident. The incident came on the heels of his wife filing for divorce in early September.
Zimmerman has not been able to avoid interacting with law enforcement since his acquittal for the 2012 killing of unarmed African-American teen, Trayvon Martin.
In September, Zimmerman was stopped for a speeding incident in Lake Mary, Florida for driving 15 miles over the 45 mph speed limit. In July, he was stopped for speeding in Forney, Texas and admitted to carrying a gun in the car’s glove compartment.
Zimmerman’s attorneys successfully argued a self-defense case having him acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in what became a very racially charged case.
