The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a 5.2 magnitude earthquake near the city of Zihuatanejo in Guerrero, Mexico. The quake that occurred at 10:45 p.m. local time was felt in Mexico City.
The quake’s epicenter was some 27 miles from Zihuatanejo and 177 miles away from the capital city. Mexican officials are reporting buildings were swaying in Mexico City but no damage or deaths have been reported thus far.
The earthquake is being reported as 33.3 miles deep and closest to Tres Palos, Mexico in the state of Guerrero which is some 27 miles away from Acapulco with a small population of over 5,000 people.
