John Leguizamo, best known for his one man stage shows, just signed a development deal with ABC for a new sitcom about his life in New York City. The sitcom, although still searching for a writer, will be the first starring role in a television comedy for Leguizamo. He will also serve as co-producer of the show along with, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, and his manager Jeff Golenberg.
The Colombian-American comedian and actor first appeared on the big screen in 1989 in the movie, Casualties of War. Since then, Leguizamo has appeared in various television and movie roles. Some of his notable films include, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, as well as the 1996 modernization of Romeo and Juliet. He also appeared on the popular hospital drama, ER.
Currently Leguizamo is on a U.S. tour with Ghetto Klown; his fifth one man stage show. The show just finished a successful run on Broadway. He is currently translating the show into Spanish and plans to debut this version in his native country of Colombia.
