26 year-old Dominican jockey, Joel Rosario, won his 1,000th race in U.S. and Canada this week. He accomplished this milestone this past Thursday at the Santa Anita track, making him the best Dominican Republic race jockey ever.
Rosario won the seventh race on a horse called Coo Cachoo in the Bestdressed race series, leading through the race, over a mile, pulling clearly ahead in the final push by 2 ½ lengths.
Rosario was born in Santo Domingo where he attended jockey school and obtained his first professional riding license at age fourteen. He has been racing in the U.S. since 2006 and was in fourth place for the 2010 Kentucky Derby.
Rosario’s career is far from over, this spring he is seeking an even more elusive record: most stake wins during a Santa Anita winter-spring meeting, thus far he has nine stakes wins.
